Hot Stove

    Hello PawSox Fans!

Although we have once again been walloped  with more snow, it was toasty warm at McCoy Stadium last Saturday at the annual Hot Stove.

Last Thursday it was reported that we would get hit with a snow storm. Unfortunately, all the weather men and women were right as mother nature dumped a bunch of snow on us.

We were scheduled to head to Fenway Park Friday morning to pick up Manager Beyeler and some of the players that were part of the Player Development Program and transport them back to McCoy stadium to take part in the media luncheon.

Early Friday morning, the parking lot was cleared by Mick, Matt and Dave and a payloader joined them to stack the snow.

payloader.jpg
Making our way to Fenway at about 25-30 MPH took just about 2.5 hours. It seemed a lot longer. Once you see the Citgo sign, you know you are within striking distance, and more importantly, on schedule!

citgo.jpg
Once at Fenway, some guy that was trudging through the snow asks that question: “Hey pal, enough snow for you?” How do you answer that? Do you reply, “Nah, not really. It would be much better if we got about 8 more feet so we would be trapped in our house with no way out!”  Or how about the question, “Hey, cold enough for you?” You’re reply, “Nah, I like it so cold that my eyeballs get frozen in the sockets!”  Of course its enough snow!  I didn’t want any! Of course its cold enough, I like warm! Think before asking those questions.

Anyway, we arrive at Fenway. The PawsMobile and the van are parked along the snowbank. A short while later, Manager Beyeler and the players are heading back to McCoy.

Paws fenway.jpg
Once at The Park, the players and manager meet with the press, have a nice lunch and then head to the hotel to rest .Tomorrow is Hot Stove Saturday so they are told to rest up their fingers, hand and wrist to sign a ton of autographs.

On Saturday morning we head to the hotel to pick them up. We arrive at McCoy and a line has already formed at the main gate. Season ticket holders are allowed early entrance via the clubhouse entrance. (another reason to grab some season tickets)

The players, Jason Rice, Stephan Fife, Ryan Lavarnway, Robert Coello and Manager Arnie Beyeler take their seats for the questions and answers. Once the questions are done, they sign aurographs.

Players signing.jpgManager Beyeler answers a question from a fan.

Skip stove.jpg
The line outside grows longer, but moves swiftly to get them all inside. Would this really be a good time to ask, “Cold enough for you?”

Line.jpg    Hot dogs, chips, Cheetos and soft drinks are available for those in attendance for free. If you missed it, you have to wait to next year. However, don’t miss out on getting your tickets for the 2011 season.

It promises to be a very exciting season. There are so many promotions and special events. Motorcycles and classic cars, Sponge Bob, Patrick, Diego and Dora. Music, Wade Boggs, Christmas in July, Fireworks are just some of the excitement at McCoy for the 2011 season.

Tonight is Thursday. When I left the ballpark last evening, even Paws was saying……”No More!”

snow paws.jpg
Don’t wait! Order your tickets now for the best available seating. Don’t forget to check out the flex tickets, the best way to purchase tickets. If you have any questions, just give us a call at 401-724-7300 and one of us would be more than happy to assist you. You know, we are……..”Here For You!”

A local sportswriter heads to New York

    Hello PawSox Fans,

During the press conference for the new PawSox manager, one of the sportswriters that works for a local paper was absent.

Dan Barbarisi was not there because he will now be working for the Wall Street Journal covering those New York Yankees. Dan is a New York guy and covered the PawSox during the last few seasons.

Recently, sportswriters and friends headed to Boston to bid farewell to Dan and wish him luck and enjoy some food, drink and a lot of laughs. Destination, Jerry Remy’s. Just around the corner from Fenway Park.

Outside.jpg
It’s my first time here and its great. They have huge TV’s on the wall called “The Screen Monster.”

TV.jpg
Dan really enjoyed his time covering the PawSox, and would always comment on the passion and loyalty of the fans. Dan just chills out and enjoys some pretty good grub.

Brendan McGair, who covers the PawSox for the Pawtucket Times flashes the peace sign.

Brendan.jpg
Joe McDonald who formerly covered the PawSox and now works for ESPNBoston.com writing about the Red Sox and Bruins, is always busy working as he checks his Blackberry for information.

Joe Mac.jpg
Joe shared with us the emotional story he wrote about former PawSox manager Ron Johnson’s daughter who lost her leg when the horse she was riding was struck by a vehicle.

Dan and his wife will make the move to New York in a few days.

Dan wife.jpg
The sportswriters are a unique bunch indeed. The love and knowledge they have of sports is incredible. To listen to them evaluate, predict and of course argue is quite interesting. One can only imagine what this animated conversation is about.

Wierd Dan.jpg
Day after day, the sportswriters keep all the fans up to date on all sports. Whether via radio, TV, newspaper or Internet, they take their jobs very seriously.

We had a great night and will miss our friend.

good time.jpg

The crew.jpg    Dan, always enjoyed covering the PawSox Hot Stove party. Don’t forget that the PawSox Hot Stove will be held Saturday the 22nd from 11-2. Don’t miss out. Like all the sportswriters, the PawSox are indeed…………..”Here For You!”

Melt the Snow & Crank up the Heat at the PawSox Hot Stove!

Hello PawSox Fans!

Hope the New Year is treating everyone well so far!

Already there has been enough snow dumped on us for the rest of the winter. Unfortunately, there is probably more to come. But don’t fret! Things are heating up with the PawSox Hot Stove!

9 out of 10 doctors have determined that a Flex Ticket Package for the 2011 season will cause a warmth to overcome you. (The only doctor who didn’t agree is a avid thumb wrestler who doesn’t really understand any other sport.)

Yesterday morning the new PawSox Manager Arnie Beyeler arrived in Rhode Island. Coming in from Florida he was greeted by the balmy Rhode Island temp of about 14 degrees.

From there, he checked into his hotel and then we headed for some lunch. While leaving the hotel, one of the PawSox season ticket holders was also at the hotel and met the new PawSox Skipper and took a photo with him. Welcome to PawSox Country!

After lunch it was off to McCoy Stadium for a press conference.

Pano.jpg

cameras.jpg    Team President Mike Tamburro adds the finishing touch with the PawSox Cap!

Arnie cap by Mike.jpg
Once the conference was done, Manager Beyeler returned to the hotel and then out to dinner with Team President Tamburro, General Manager Lou Schwechheimer and VP and Public Relations Bill Wanless, to welcome the new Skipper to the PawSox family. After dinner, Manager Beyeler headed to his room for some much needed rest.

This morning I picked Manager Beyeler up and took him to Fenway Park for the Winter Development Program. A program for the prospects in the Red Sox organization.

Next Friday several of the staff will head back to Fenway to pick up Manager Beyeler and the prospects to transport them and their luggage back to McCoy Stadium.

On Saturday McCoy Stadium will open the doors for all fans to meet the New manager and the players in attendance. There will be free hot dogs, snacks, soft drinks and lots of fun and excitement. You can get an autograph or two and have a chance to take part in a question and answer session.

You can also purchase tickets including the doctor recommended Flex Package. The most affordable and convenient way to buy your PawSox tickets. There will be staff there to answer any questions you may have. You will have a chance to check out the hospitality suites.

If you have been to the PawSox Hot Stove before, welcome back, if not, it would behoove you to check it out. It will become an annual event for the whole family.

So grab a pen and paper…………..(I will wait while you do)…………Write down this time and date:   January 22nd, 2011 from 11 am-2pm for the Magnificent PawSox Hot Stove Party! NOTE: Full Season Ticket Holders allowed entrance at 10:30am. Admission: FREE!

Its a great way to spend part of the day with the whole family! Invite friends, relatives and even neighbors. Since the Hot Stove party is free, you can even tell them it’s your treat!

Check out the PawSox schedule at pawsox.com then decide what games you want to attend and secure your tickets now for the best available seating. Also, don’t forget to check out the awesome promotions and special events already scheduled for the 2011 season.

BaseketBall!

    Hello PawSox Fans!

Although not much of a basketball fan, I do attend a Providence College game about once a season. On New Years day a few friends and I went to watch the Friars take on St. Johns.

Prior to the game getting underway, they announced the National Anthem will be performed by John Castillo. “Big Bad John” is perhaps one of the best National Anthem singers known to mankind. He sings the National Anthem at a PawSox game every year. He is a great young man with a ton of talent.

Its always great to see John and his family.

john.jpg
The first time we heard Big Bad John sing was at the Boston Sportswriter Banquet several years ago. When he was done, Team President Mike Tamburro asked to invite him to sing at McCoy. We all had a chance to meet John and his great family. As they say, the rest is history, and we look forward to the Castillo family every year.

While watching the game, I see Katie who works the hospitality suites for the PawSox during the season. She works for Providence College keeping things running smoothly. She still finds time to smile for the camera.

Although at a basketball game, I still know we are one day closer to opening day and have PawSox on my mind. There are many PawSox fans at the game and they come by and say hi and tell me they are looking forward to the new season.

While watching the game, I again notice the refs have this type of beeper attached to their belt. I had seen it last season when I came to a game and wondered if they all had the same kind of cell phone or beeper.

During a break in the action, I was able to speak with one of the refs and ask what it was. It was then I learned that with that little box they control the clock via remote control. Very interesting indeed.

Prior to the second half starting I was able to speak with the ref again. He explained to me that they can start the clock and also time the team timeouts. Further, he showed me his whistle. Attached to the cord of the whistle was this little ball about the size of a BB. When a ref blows the whistle, the clock stops! What next?

See the little box on the waistband?

REF.jpg
    Here’s a close up.

remote.jpg
Again after reading this blog you are smarter! Some new information that you probably didn’t know. I’m sure the next basketball game you watch, you will check the refs for the little black box.

One of the smartest thing people can do is head out to McCoy Stadium during the 2011 season.

You may hear Big Bad John belt out the National Anthem. What would be better than celebrating that special occasion in a hospitality suite? A birthday, anniversary, wedding party, etc.. all in a climate controlled suite. Complete with private restroom, flat screen TV and wait staff like Katie serving food that you ordered from a special menu. Imagine feasting on chowder and clam cakes. Grilled chicken or hamburgers and hot dogs along with a cheese tray or even shrimp cocktail! There is a fantastic menu.

Suites are also a nice way to thank customers or reward employees. There are also BBQ tents available for your group or company. As always mentioned, the flex tickets are a great way to enjoy PawSox games and save some loot. There is something for everyone!

Please give the PawSox a call at 401-724-7300 if you have any questions. Reserve your suite or BBQ early to lock in the date you want. All information can also be found by visiting pawsox.com

Stay tuned for the date and specifics for the upcoming Hot Stove Part here at McCoy!

Make it a New Years resolution to enjoy the great atmosphere at McCoy Stadium during the 2011 season. You will see firsthand, we are………”Here For You!”

    Love to hear from you!

Santa Paws and Santa Claus

    Hello PawSox Fans!

Hope your Christmas Holiday was filled with many great yucks, great food and great family and friends!

Santa Paws joined forces with Santa Claus on Christmas Eve to deliver toys to kids in several cities and towns. Spending Christmas Eve with the two was nothing short of magnificent!

Using the PawsMobile Sleigh, the two were transported from house to house to meet and greet the youngsters who really enjoyed it.

CLAUS AND PAWS.jpg
Santa Paws and Santa Claus got to meet a young PawSox fan and family. The little guys name was Jacoby! Of course named after former PawSox and now Boston Red Sox player Jacoby Ellsbury.

JACOBY.jpg
At each home Paws and Claus would load up a sack and deliver the contents to the boys and girls. They were all very happy with the visit.

SANTA & KIDS.jpg
Going from home to home causes one to get a hankering for some hot chocolate. We stopped at a Dunkin’ Donuts to grab some drink. While there, a woman told Santa and Paws a story of a family with kids who had recently lost their home to fire, losing everything.

crop II.jpg
Santa and Paws sprung into action and the PawsMobile Sleigh followed the woman to the home they were staying at with other family members. Once again a sack was filled and delivered to the youngsters.

While loading the sack for the house, three young ladies and their moms came walking by. Of course Santa Paws and Santa Claus wished them a Merry Christmas and made sure they didn’t go away empty handed.

CROP FEET.jpg

The time flew by and it was now past midnight. Since the kids were awake when Santa and Paws arrived there were no milk and cookies. What better place for Saint Nick to grab something to eat then Nick’s Hot Dogs!

ST NICKS.jpg
We each grab “three all the way” meaning the works.

I remember coming here since I was a young boy and sitting on these same chairs. Its said the chairs came from an old school and are dated the late 1800′s.

SEATS.jpg
Santa and Paws are done for the night. On Christmas day there are a few more stops. Jordan loves his Buzz Lightyear and ZuZu Pet. Mission accomplished.

JORDAN.jpg
This morning, Sunday the 26th, I know about the threat of a severe snow storm. Santa heads back to the North Pole and Paws heads to his igloo. I decide to head south.

I hit the storm and its getting worse.

Snow.jpg
I make it as far south as Connecticut. As luck would have it I find a great hotel. The Bellisimo Grande. They have great rates and can you believe that its about a stones throw from Foxwoods Casino? And, they have limo service to the casino! What Luck!

snow II.jpg
Its an awesome place to stay and the staff is fantastic. It has been an exciting and fun weekend and I head into the lobby.

Lobby.jpg
It’s another day closer to opening day! The PawSox have a new manager and tickets are on sale. Be sure to join the PawSox during the 2011 season. Keep up with all the latest news at pawsox.com  You can read the latest headlines and order tickets. You can even print your tickets right at home!

Santa Paws!

    Hello PawSox Fans!

Yesterday morning, Saturday, December 18th, Santa Paws and I headed to Citizens For Citizens located in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Citizens For Citizens is a great agency that lends a helping hand to those in need. Today is the annual “Operation Christmas!” Families pre-register and are given Christmas gifts for the children to help make their Christmas a happy time and a little brighter.

Throughout the year they solicit gifts and monies from businesses and private donors to make it possible. Two weeks ago, they held their annual Operation Christmas Telethon at the Harbor Mall. The Telethon runs for three days with the dedicated volunteers and F.R.E.D. TV who make it all possible. (FRED TV is a group of students from Durfee High School who film, produce and edit videos. The Paws and Sox videos you see for the soft toss every game was made by the students of FRED TV.)

When we arrive, the folks are lined up down the sidewalk. The offices and building have been transformed into a giant toy store. Santa Paws meets with the folks in line. He hands out Beanie Babies to the kids in line.

paws waving.jpg

Paws sign.jpg    Santa Paws takes a quick break from helping unload the truck and poses for a photo.

Santa Paws heads into the building and meets with Barbara Travis who spearheads Operation Christmas and is a big PawSox fan. Barbara is full of energy and caring! Always with a smile and willing to help others.

paws and barb.jpg
Santa Paws meet some of the many volunteers who are a huge help in making it all work.

Santa Paws wishes all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year. Everyone is looking forward to the 2011 season. If you’re looking for some terrific Christmas gifts, PawSox Flex Tickets make great gifts! Flex Tickets are truly the “Gift that keeps on Giving!”

Have you ever seen the movie Christmas Vacation? Remember when Clark is waiting for a Christmas bonus to install a pool in the back yard and instead gets a membership in the Jelly of the Month Club? The always annoying Eddie tells Clark, ”It’s the gift that keeps on giving”. That movie is always good for some yucks.

Just picture the people who you give the Flex Tickets to.They will be thanking you once again during the summer months as they sit and enjoy all the excitement of McCoy Stadium and watching the PawSox in a FAN-TASTIC family atmosphere!

If you have any questions just give the PawSox a call at 401-724-7300 or visit the website pawsox.com

Each day we move another day closer to opening day. I am hoping this winter passes as swiftly as possible to make way for the summer sun and fun.

Christmas is next week and the hustle and bustle will be over. There are some people who truly enjoy Christmas shopping while others find it very stressful.

People are fighting traffic, yelling from their vehicles, honking the horn and waving at others using just one finger! DONT stress!  Enjoy the Holidays! Laugh and have fun with family, friends and PawSox fans!

Speaking on stress, after sending Santa Paws back to his Igloo at the North Pole, I returned home wondering how I was going to get rid of an entertainment center. I had lugged the thing outside but now what? Trash pickup wasn’t done on Saturday and what would the schedule be like for pickup up next week.

What was I going to do? It was a rather clear day, chilly but clear with not much wind. We have a fire pit in our backyard for the campfires. What a great idea! After taking it apart, it burned very well!  Problem solved!  Please note the garden hose and bucket of water for safety!

fire.jpg
Have a stress free and fun Christmas! PawSox tickets ensure you a good time. Cant wait to see you on opening day. Remember, we are……..”Here For You!”
